Soldier reprimanded for Facebook death message

A Fort Carson soldier involved in using Facebook to tell the wife of another soldier that her husband was killed in Afghanistan is at the center of an investigation for his actions, according to military sources.

Army officials say Ariell Taylor-Brown of Mobile, Ala., learned of her husband’s death through a chain of three soldiers and a Facebook message. Next of kin are supposed to be informed in person by uniformed personnel.

An Army spokesman said Friday the soldier who told Taylor-Brown may face a reprimand, but that one has not been issued at this time. Officials haven’t said whether the other two soldiers face any action.

Taylor-Brown’s husband, Staff Sgt. Christopher Brown of Columbus, Ohio, was killed April 3 by an insurgent bomb.

Taylor-Brown has said she got a Facebook message asking her to call someone immediately.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the person she called was the soldier who was reprimanded.
